Yes and no. You *can* use many of the newer TVs as monitors, but they are not
optimized for that purpose and can take some tweaking to get working acceptably.
For example, many of them don't handle switching resolutions terribly well. They
can lose synchronization and require a power-cycle or other reset.
Many 720p TVs (i.e. that display 1280x720 HD content) actually have 1366x728
pixels, and some internal scaling needs to be done. So, if you display a 1280x720
desktop on them, you'll get artifacts. And convincing some of these TVs to
display at their "native" 1366x728 resolution can require some dark magic - and
some video cards can't display that resolution at all (1366 is not an even
multiple of 8).
Finally, many TVs don't do all the "Energy Star" power saving and won't shut
down when the video card tells them to go into sleep mode.
