Well, check this out:

What I am looking for is a relatively portable system that can be used
on a wide variety of machines. Something I can can carry around. Bonus
points for:
0. Small, convenient size. (Having everything on a flash drive is therefore
good, but if the disadvantages outweigh this, oh well.)
1. A writable home directory. (Bookmarks, file xfer, etc.)
2. Having tools to help clean up hosed Windows systems. Captive NTFS or
something like that would be nice. [*]

Well, from what I've gathered, if you plan carefully that's not so much
of a problem. My understanding has been that you can set up the system not
unlike a boot CD - and those you generally can't write to at all. You set
up a limited system with no swap at all (you need a decent amount of RAM,
of course), and have an extra partition on the key mounted as a home
directory.
Anyone have experience with any of these?
