I've been known to do a drive to drive copy and boot from the result.
It's been a while so I can give suggestions, not a step-by-step HOWTO.
With new drive in old machine, rsync will duplicate files. With
new drive in new machine, use Mandriva CD as a rescue CD to install
boot loader (lilo or grub). It can be as easy as that (or you may
have to play with initial ram disk and other stuff).
Carl's route may be easier...
Have fun!
