[mdlug] NAS Recommendations - May 10Th meeting?

Well, this thread really took off onto a lot of material.

Maybe we can schedule a MDLUG meeting on the topic of storage.

Would anyone be able to lead a discussion or present for the May 10Th meeting? This would be the second Saturday at Noon (until 2:30 PM). In Dearborn.

I do not, but I have purchased two Synology DS213J's and like them quite a bit.  They do provide root ssh access and can support Unix users and groups (with some meddling - I have the docs if you need them) and NFSv4 which apparently provides the same effective access control.  This is vastly better than the Seagate black NAS pos it replaced.

They also have a very good web admin client, and many easy to install, numerous, and well designed extensions such as a DLNA server.

Synology has a good range of NAS product options, including enterprise NAS.  If you haven't looked, I encourage you to do so.
