[mdlug-newbie] Modem Monitor Problem with Ubuntu Version 6.1

I was all set and packed to attend and something came up at the last minute 
so didn't make it.  In the meantime I have been working some more on the 
problem.  I have installed Version 6.1 on a partition on the same hard drive 
that has the working version of 5.1.  Modem Monitor still will not come 
alive in 6.1. Additionally I have found that the selection for tone or pulse 
dialing also does not work either.  I tink that there is something 
fundamental wrong with the thing.  I am going to work with recommendation 
that Ray Ingles proposed in his reply to my initial posting as a possible 
work around.  I looked at my Ubuntu Forum posting and still no action so I 
guess that it isn't an issue.  Maybe dial-up is dead.
