Non-standard? Quite a surprise, since it came with a 10.2 distro
purchased straight from SuSe, DVD/CD package.  I used the DVD to
install, and did nothing fancy, because I do not know how to do anything
fancy.
 
It is quite an attractive splash screen.  Your boot options are enclosed
in a plaque-like rectangle, draped with snow, and a little penguin skips
back and forth in the snow across the top of the plaque while at the
right margin of the screen, another penguin tumbles over and over from
the top to the bottom, representing the timer. When he hits bottom, the
machine boots. Cute.

Initially, a message appeared saying to the effect, If you want this to
be your permanent screen, do... followed by a command line which meant
nothing at all to me.  Most recently, that instruction has not
appeared.  I'd hoped to get it from someone who knew what he was doing.
Now I find that maybe somebody with a puckish sense of humor slipped
something onto my DVD. Can't really tell you any more.
