In addition to my question about DVD burner stubborness, let me toss in
this question while I'm at it:
This morning I got that wintery, penguin tumbling splash screen when I
turned on the machine.  Why, at my age, it should be so, I do not know,
but I like that splash screen.  What do I have to do to get it ongoing,
instead of just appearing, unbidden, every so often? 
I'm reasonably intelligent, but I really don't know much about the
internal workings of Linux, so please keep any suggestion
simple...really simple.  And thank you.
