[mdlug-newbie] Burning DVDs

I am running Suse 10.2, and in the past had no difficulty burning an iso
image to a DVD, including the burning of the factory version of 10.3,
which I have not yet installed -- am trying it out on a second computer.
Can you suggest why the 10.2 version should suddenly have decided it not
only will not burn an iso DVD (I have not tried a simple data DVD), it
will not even recognize the presence of a blank, either regular DVD or
double-layer.  I believe I have checked and double-checked the most
likely settings, and can find no reason for this sudden burner
brainfade.  I will appreciate any and all suggestions.
