Hello Everyone,
So my love affair with Nokia is over and I'm seriously looking at getting an Asus Eee T91 touchscreen for on the job data entry, and advanced pim and email. I really liked the Nokia n810 and used it heavily until it died. Before that I had the Nokia n770 and the n800. I got a n900 but haven't used it because one of the must have software application is not fully useable for me. And it's really small, too small in fact. The whole device is now no bigger than just the screen was on previous models. One of the reasons I liked it so much was I could fit it into a shirt pocket, something I won't be able to do with the T91. On the flip side, I can install the standard Linux applications on the Asus, something not easily accomplished on the Nokia. To say nothing about trying to hit a button on a miniature screen. What I use heavily is Xournal to annotate .pdf documents, Leafpad to keep notes, GPE for pim, email to send the created forms and web for the occasional reference. My
must have application is actively being worked on, but some things Nokia has done is interfering. They have entered into a partnership with Intel and are calling the community Meego. This is creating a lot of interest and discussion in the Maemo developer community, which means less time to actually port applications. So the way I see it is I'll be trading in ultra portability for ease of programming and use, to say nothing of the increased capability of a "real" computer. The Nokia's have shown me that I can save an incredible amount of time by directly entering data into a form on the job, vs making notes and handwriting forms or going back to the office. Also saves me a bundle on paper. I also found that I prefer a real keyboard, however small; to a virtual keyboard. So something like the Tabletkiosk is out. Of course there's the benefit of being able to retrieve work orders enroute to the site, etc, etc. This is a real long winded way of asking for input from anyone who
cares to reply.
