Reminds me a little of Star Wars. "The more you tighten your grip,
Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers." Vista is
not just a resource pig, its draconian anti-piracy measures and DRM
regime make it actively user-hostile.
Here's another Slashdot article that illustrates the consequences:
http://linux.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/10/23/1929249
"Ubuntu goes out of its way to get out of your way... Vista goes out
of its way to be Vista and enforce the Vista way."
I'm still amazed that MS would come out with such a product. It shows
incredible arrogance on their part. Almost none of its features are
aimed at actual users, only hardware sellers and Hollywood. I guess
they were hoping that the hardware would catch up with them. But CPU
speeds have plateaued to an extent and, more importantly, computer
*prices* have dropped substantially. Getting a competent computer is
now a few hundred dollars rather than almost two grand. But while
other systems like Linux will fly on a competent computer, Vista
is nearly unusable there.
MS can't afford for people to keep buying XP, so they're trying to
push Vista. The problem is, that's a very tough sell. I expect MS to
deliberately (or through neglect) make XP less attractive, in the
expectation (hope) that they will move to Vista. But they really don't
understand that there are viable alternatives to Vista now...
Sincerely,
