Okay...
Here's where you missed the point:
I brought up war as a reason why it is wrong to lose our
manufacturing base, as a manufacturing base is incredibly important in
situations, such as war. This is not me saying, "I loves me some war."
This was me pointing out a terrible fact of the world.
The counterpoint to that was China would never go to war with us, we
are their largest trading partner. Their economy would go to ruin and
some other tiny grained viewpoints.
I pointed out how myopic that entire viewpoint is.
You joined late, probably ignoring the previous statements and train
of thought and decided to press your ideological viewpoint (Which I
actually agree with, while also taking the terrible realities of the
world into consideration.) into the conversation. Thus, missing my point
entirely.
Why don't you go back and read the 26 reasons yourself, and or point
out how the terrible realities of the world are wrong and that if we are
forced into a war, without a manufacturing base, there will be nothing
to be concerned about because we can just smile and aim puppies and
kittens at any aggressor who wants to take over the US and aggressively
force their way of life upon us. A strong manufacturing base is a strong
defensive base, it doesn't mean we have to churn our endless lines of
weapons, it just makes it possible, in the horrible event that we have
no choice, but to do so.
If understanding the potential need to be able to defend oneself by
having an industry that could be retooled makes someone a warmonger... I
just don't know what to say. Really, that's an absurd position to hold.
Personally, I hate war, I wish we weren't mired in Iraq and
Afghanistan and I hope we never have to face anything like WWI or WWII
for the rest of man's time on this planet. Unfortunately, our species
has an incredibly lengthy history of killing each other on grand scales.
So, we need to be aware of that terrible possibility and thus make sure
that we have the ability to defend ourselves if need be, which means
having a manufacturing base that could, if desperately needed, be made
to turn out weapons of war.
Right now, that base is on a major decline and we need to stop that
just to ensure that if needed ourselves or our children or their
children will have the tools to be able to defend the lifestyle we have
built for ourselves in this nation. Is that a wrong position to hold?
