Up until about 10 years ago, engineering recruitment typically
involved four technical interviews, the first usually by phone,
and the applicant's direct contact with non-technical HR was
usually limited to verification of credentials and logistics
arrangements for the technical interviews.
In the last 5 years of job searching, resume submission,
and otherwise dealing with recruitment,
I have seen that typically all of the process involves sifting of
resumes by automated and non-technical buzzword search,
followed by a phone interview with a non-technical recruiter.
Only about 1 in 20 interviews involved any more technical
testing or interview.
Technical hirers have told me they get thousands of resumes per day,
and so only consider referrals from their current employees,
and resumes submitted by outsourced non-technical recruiter/contractors.
If your experience has been different,
I would like to learn how to enter into your more technically selective
market.
My experience,
