People are as varied as their preferred HD manufacturer of choice as they
are their linux distro of choice.  People will also quote their given
experiences with HDs failing, and someone else will be around to
completely refute what they say.

That being said, *I* will only buy Hitachi (replaced IBM), Western
Digital, or Seagate (even though I've had past experience with some
troubles working with Seagate support on getting SATA II drives firmware
updated).

The only manufacturer that I completely avoid is Maxtor, and probably for
more of a historical reason, than the current products reliability, back
in the day when I was doing a lot of building, Maxtor's crapped out all
the time on me.

I've had all kinds of HDs fail on me, Maxtor, WD, Seagate, IBM, etc.  And
its pretty random, and I'm sure a lot of other factors come into play like
case ventillation and such.

Just check out the Hot Deals forum at Anandtech and see what HD deals roll
through there, and get a good price.
